Profile Information

What is your favorite vacation spot?

I try never to leave Nantucket in the summer because it is so glorious. However, in the winter, it's another story. My favorite vacation spot for a winter getaway is Fremantle, Australia. Four of the past six years, my husband and I have taken our three children on the mighty journey to Fremantle and Perth (which entails 27 hours of plane time from New York). We rent a house and enjoy the beach, the weather, the town (filled with cafes and shops) and the attractions (the Perth Zoo, the aquarium, the wildlife parks where the kids can feed the kangaroos). Western Australia offers the perfect balance of laid back cosmopolitan life and sunny beach culture. I am also partial to New York City. My favorite place to eat is Bar Americain, my favorite places to shop are the 5th floor of Bergdorfs and anywhere in the West Village, and my favorite thing to do is go to art museums -- I love the MOMA, the Frick, and the Morgan Library.

What's the best book you've read on the beach?

My memory is short and my retention is bad (old age?) The best book I read on the beach this past winter was Mary and O'Neil by Justin Cronin. I also loved American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. I like my beach books to be engaging but not heavy. As much as I adored Edgar Sawtelle, it was not a great book for the beach. It was better by the fire.

What is your favorite summer beverage?

My favorite beverage any time is Veuve Clicquot champagne. I adore it! Running a close second is lightly sweetened iced tea with fresh mint that I make myself...I pick the mint out of my backyard herb garden.
